What happened in Coppell?

What happened in Coppell?

Rev. Fr. Mathew Sasseril an energetic young priest has returned to India having served the Syro-Malabar diocese of Chicago for three years.  The Syro Malabar community in Coppell will remember him for his courage, knowledge, and God given wisdom. He never failed to proclaim the truth and he always stood for it. He was not afraid to confront the emerging anti ecclesial trends in the diocese of Chicago in general and in the parish of Coppell in particular.  He took up this challenge and did a good job in bringing back discipline in the community.  He never compromised principles at the same time was kind and considerate even to those opposed him.

It is very disheartening to see that a few of his fellow priests do not recognize or comprehend what Fr. Mathew Sasseril did in Coppell.  They pass judgment on him without knowing the truth.  For example he recently replaced a sliver Mar Thoma Cross on the Alter with a wooden one.  He did not do anything with the big Crucifix in sanctuary.  What he did was changing the silver Mar Thomas Cross with a wooden one because it was more visible from the back of the church.    The priests who criticize Fr. Sasseril should make an examination of conscience of their own loyalty to the traditions of the Syro-Malabar Church and to the Bishop who appointed them to the office they hold.  If you cannot carry out your function faithfully don’t blame the one who has the guts to stand for the mother Church and her teachings.

For several priests in our diocese what matters is their own name and fame.  They don’t care about the truth.  They even persuade others to follow the same. Their priorities in life are that of the world.  Be in the good books of the anti ecclesial Blog Writers and keep away from their comments and criticisms. They seem to proclaim the word of Blog than the word of God.   The faithful of Coppell are aware of the close contact of these priests with the anti ecclesial groups.  There are even priests with in diocese who support anti ecclesial activities in Coppell.  As long as these priests continue to support those bad elements, Coppell Church will be in same disastrous path. As priests working under Mar Jacob Angadiath should obey and support his efforts to bring traditional Syro-Malabar liturgy and its icons. Only a very few people in Coppell makes trouble and work against Church and its teachings but the blame falls on every one.

As every one aware Fr. Mathew Sasseril had the courage to take action against a long time anti church activist and a parishnor of Coppell Church, who stood against “profession of faith”. You might have seen him protesting in front of St. Thomas mount Kakkanatt, Syro-Malabar Convention at Atlanta etc.
